Setting the board
Standard rules: 5 captures, one jump per turn, tigers start on the board. A simple opponent plays the other side. Easy, Medium and Hard live in the app.
The board
- Pieces sit on points. A step follows a line to the next empty point.
- Goats always move first.
Placing the goats
- On each goat turn, place 1 goat on any empty point.
- Goats already on the board stay put until all 15 have entered.
- Between goat turns, move 1 tiger or make a capture.
Moving and capturing
- After all goats have entered, move 1 piece to an adjacent empty point on your turn.
- A tiger captures by jumping over an adjacent goat to an empty point beyond, along the same straight line.
- Goats cannot jump. Tigers cannot jump over tigers. Capturing is optional.
- Only 1 capture is allowed per turn.
Winning
- Tigers win after 5 captures.
- Goats win when none of the 3 tigers can move or capture on the tiger turn.
- When goats have no move, they pass.
A fair finish
- Once all goats have entered, the same position with the same side to move appearing 3 times is a draw.
- A draw also follows 50 tiger moves without a capture, counted after all goats have entered.
Family variants
Some families play to 15 captures, allow several jumps, or place tigers one at a time. Choose these variants in Settings for offline games.
Online matches use the standard rules.
